Sculptors of Mahabalipuram
Mahabalipuram is the main center for ancient stone carving in India. Stone carving here is famous for its 7th century art and architecture of Pallavas period and still persists. The production method has not changed much since then, only the hammer and chisel have replaced electric cutters in some cases. There are now over 500 craftsmen involved in the carving in Mahabalipuram. The main products are the replicas of Hindu mythological epics.
