SADHUS

Sadhu is a general term in Hinduism referring to an ascetic or mendicant pilgrim who has given up worldly life and material and sexual pleasures to attain the highest spiritual goal. Throughout India, an estimated 4-5 million of these sadhus living in caves, forests and temples, which the authorities consider dead. Some sadhus communicate with gods through drugs, others choose the hard way of self-torment. This strict practice helps to eradicate karma not only for themselves but for society as a whole. Therefore, holy men are deeply respected and worshiped.
