Brownfields Brno
Brownfields is my ongoing project mapping the abandoned places in the Czech Republic, while most industrial production has moved into growing India and China. These may be industrial, agricultural, military areas, railway land and also the areas of public facilities (health, sports, etc.). Many contamined brownfield sites sit unused for decades because the cost of cleaning them to safe standards is more than the land would be worth after redevelopment. Redevelopment has become more common in the first decade of the 21st century, as developable land grows less available in highly populated areas, and brownfields as a reminder to European industrial period will disappear. |
